Casio Watch Goes Solar, Tells Worldwide Time

by Nino Marchetti, July 30th, 2009

Remember those big, clunky calculator watches which you wore and that made you look geeky? That type of larger watch is still around, with Casio in particular being the most remembered of manufacturers in this category. The company is still cranking them out, albeit it now with one which is solar powered.

This Casio Mudman watch prices around $160 and sports tiny solar collectors in the watch face which collect the sun’s rays and turn them into energy for the watch’s internal battery. It is said a full charge by this method will last up to seven months without further sunlight exposure. The primary focus of this Mudman is worldwide atomic accuracy, giving you correct time around the world via signals from six atomic clock radio broadcasts. It updates itself up to six times a day “by radio clocks located in the U.S., UK, Germany, Japan (two clocks), and China.”
