SideWinder Lets You Crank to Charge Your Phone

by Nino Marchetti, July 17th, 2009

Hand crank power solutions – where you turn a crank attached to a charging device multiple times to generate power for recharging another device’s battery – are a useful portable power solution for those who like to be eco-friendly. One such device, for sale at online retailer Gaiam, is claimed to be the smallest currently available.

The SideWinder cell phone charger, weighing 2.5 ounces, is a hand crank charger targeted at cell phones. It is said that if you crank this device for two minutes, you’ll get up to six minutes of talk time. It comes with adapter tips for most models of Nokia, LG, Samsung, Kyocera, Sony/Ericsson and Motorola Razr phones and also includes a LED emergency light which can provide light if needed after cranking.
