2010 Prius Draws Positive Consumer Reports Praise

by Nino Marchetti, October 7th, 2009

Consumer Reports is continuing its love affair with the Toyota Prius, finding the new third-generation model to be “the most fuel-efficient car consumers can buy at 44 mpg overall.” The publication’s latest test results of Toyota’s top selling hybrid will appear in the upcoming November issue, most likely garnering another Top Pick for Green Car when the magazine gets around to choosing that for its annual auto issue.

CR granted the 2010 Prius “a Very Good Road Test score of 80,” according to the publisher. The tests of the new Prius found what are called some “small improvements,” including a steady ride, better driving position and improved rear seating. Also of note is the handling, found to be “sound, but unexceptional,” and that the “continuously variable transmission is very smooth.” The car, as tested, priced under $27,000 and was powered by a 134-hp, 1.8- liter 4-cylinder engine and separate electric motor.
