Hello Kitty Solar Charger Scares Us – Alot

by Nino Marchetti, October 28th, 2009

We here at EarthTechling sometimes wonder about the true extent to which one can consider a product green. This particular one we are highlighting in this post definitely is probably a bit of a stretch, but it is so damm bizarre, we figure why the hell not? Meet therefore the Hello Kitty Solar Charger.

That’s right – the Hello Kitty Solar Charger. We aren’t sure that you can buy it here in North America, which is why we’ve provided a Google Translate link below to see this in all of its Hello Kitty glory. Embrace the glory of the white kitty face! Take assurance in the solidness of the Hello Kitty carabiner you attach the solar charger too! Take note that your friends will ridicule you forever!

Just in case you are wondering about technical specs, here is what we can tell about the Hello Kitty Solar Charger: it gets a full charge from solar power in about 7 to 14 hours, depending upon how clear the skies are. A LED light lets you know the charge status, and one can also use an AC adapter to charge it. This charger will, at the minimum, refresh the battery of mobile phones. We couldn’t guarantee that though so, if you order one of these things and it ends up being just a pretty Hello Kitty collectible, don’t say we didn’t tell you so.

[...] The Keystone Eco Tag, which will probably be available come February, also lets you write your name on it  – hence the luggage tag function. We just aren’t convinced this is a useful way to integrate solar technology, especially as we envision this item being either crushed between suitcases in flight or getting ripped off at some point during the luggage handling process. It really can’t be that much more useless though than this Hello Kitty solar charger. [...]
