Survey Finds Consumers Really Do Want Solar

by Nino Marchetti, October 9th, 2009

Solar power, of the different forms of alternative energy available to consumers, is probably the best well known since it has been around for a few decades now. The growing popularity of solar seems especially evident now, if a recent poll from a solar panel manufacturer as well as an associated trade industry group are to be believed.

This poll, conducted by Schott North America and the Solar Energy Industries Association, highlights that over 90 percent of Americans, regardless of political affiliation, feel solar energy should be developed and used, with 77 percent believing the federal government should make this development a national priority. It is also noted in this yearly survey that almost half of Americans are thinking about solar power for themselves, and that other forms of alternative energy lag far behind in terms of consumer interest. The survey was conducted by an independent polling firm, which perhaps helps counter the fact it was conducted on behalf of the solar energy. It would be interesting though to see a more independent survey done by a true third neutral party to show if people are more into wind or solar, among other choices.
