Weird Electric Nash Metropolitan Hits eBay, Scares Bidders

by Nino Marchetti, October 29th, 2009

We draw inspiration from Autoblog Green in sometimes checking around eBay for interesting eco-friendly items to highlight here at EarthTechling. One such find, which is on a short timer countdown at the time of this posting, is this very unique looking 1961 Nash Metropolitan electric conversion – we can’t say exactly what it looks like now, but it is apparently street legal (at least in Texas, that is).

This 1961 Nash Metropolitan Golf Cart seems designed to look like something out of a pink-purple hazed drug dream. It sports a 45 horse power electric motor from Solectron and is said to achieve road speeds of up to 60 MPH. Its designer says this electric car can go two to three-and-a-half hours between charges and can be charged via a standard 220 volt electric outlet.

It is noted in the eBay description notes this “golf cart,” or whatever you want to call it, was completed last year to the tune of $40,000. It is titled and registered in Texas and is currently bidding way below that $40k mark. Might make an interesting addition to your EV collection – unless, of course, you prefer an electric cupcake car.
