Westinghouse greenvue LCD HDTVs Preview

Westinghouse is one of those venerable American business names people are at least vaguely familiar with. This name, in one form or another, has been a facet of the business world since the late 1800s. It, among other avenues, is slapped on a variety of consumer related products, including appliances, lighting fixtures and consumer electronics. It is in this latter category, via its new eco-efficient LCD HDTVs, that we take notice.

Westinghouse offers up for green-focused consumers its small line up of greenvue HDTVs. Initially only one model with a 26-inch display was available, but new 32- and 42-inch screens were recently unveiled as well. A number of factors make these televisions more eco-focused, according to Westinghouse. These include reduced energy consumption which is up to 20 percent better than current Energy Star suggestions and energy usage which is up to 40 percent less than previous Westinghouse LCD HDTVs. The packaging these HDTVs come in is said to be more environmentally friendly as well, being made of recyclable materials and using soy based ink for the writing on the box.

All three Westinghouse greenvue LCD HDTVs have a variety of features in common. These include 720p/1080i HD support (1080p for the 42-inch), two HDMI inputs, an ATSC/NTSC/ClearQAM tuner, 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio support and anti-glare coating on the LCD’s screen for better television viewing when bright light is present.

Prices on these models vary depending upon where you purchase them, but the 32-inch display is reported to price around $430, while the 42-inch model prices around $700.
