Sometimes troubled electric vehicle manufacturer Zap is looking to gain some new kudos in the electric vehicle market this week through the showcasing of its upcoming Alias electric sports car. This three-wheeled machine has been on display this week in New York City as the company competes for the $10 million in the Progressive Insurance Automotive X Prize alternative vehicles competition.
The Zap Alias, like the upcoming Arcimoto Pulse, targets a subset of drivers looking for a more hip looking electric vehicle ride around town. This particular EV, expected to price around $35,000 after final details have been worked out, is powered by a pair of lithium batteries. It is said to be able to top 75 MPH and travel over 100 miles on a single charge. Like similar electric cars it can be charged via a standard 110-volt outlet in one’s garage.

“The Progressive Insurance Automotive X Prize will be an excellent opportunity to put the Alias through its paces,” said Steven Schneider, Chief Executive Officer of ZAP, in a statement. “We specifically designed the Alias for customers who are in the market for a sports car and who care about energy efficiency.”
