Chilibed Cools You Off Or Heats You Up Via Embedded Water Coils

by Susan DeFreitas, February 4th, 2010

A product designed to combat night-sweats and hot flashes that also combats global warming? Quite possibly, yes. The Chilibed is basically what it sounds like: a bed that cools you off at night (which happens to be a lot more energy efficient than running the AC.)

According to Greenlaunches, this ingenious contraption works via a series of coils embedded in the bed that carry heated or cooled water with temperatures from 48 degrees to a steaming 118 degrees to different zones. Individuals can each set their desired temperature as well, solving the battle of bedtime for couples with different personal thermostats, and allowing them to skip the AC, heat, fans, extra clothing, etc. they’d normally use to get comfortable at night.

Currently only available as a mattress pad–the Chilipad–the Chilibed will is slated to hit the market soon. Both products will be available as either single or dual zoned and work via remote control. And unlike an electric blanket (for those of you who need a little extra warmth at night) there’s no low-frequency electrical field (EMF) generated by either one.

Interesting idea. Great for marital bliss when women like me are going through menopause. Might be expensive though. I think I might stick with my Cool-jams wicking pajamas. Kind of the same idea…keeps me cooler at night .
