Click & Grow: Growing Plants Via Your Computer’s USB Connection

The perfect gift for people with more money than sense? Or a godsend for the black-thumbed? You decide. The Click & Grow is a high tech system for a simple household activity: taking care of potted plants.

Got a few extra bucks to spend? According to Green Diary, the basic Click & Grow system alerts you via a blinking light when the water tank needs to be refilled. If you’ve got a little more disposable income, you can upgrade to a model that fills that tank automatically, presumably via an irrigation system. Got diamonds encircling your cat’s collar? Go for the model that collects water automatically (somehow), from the air.

What the Click & Grow system needs is a connection to your computer via a USB cable and a plant cartridge you fill with with seeds (sold separately).  Special sensors, processors and special software take care of watering, fertilizing, and other parameters affecting your plant’s growth and health. Basic models start around $23.00, not including seed cartridges.
