Leash Uses Dog Power To Run LED Lights For Night Walks

by Susan DeFreitas, February 9th, 2010

You work hard to buy dog chow and chew toys for Fido. Why should you do all the work? A new product from Fido Fashions puts pups to work on night-time walks with LED lights powered by the coiling and uncoiling motion of a retractable leash.

According to Green Cleaning Ideas, the dog leash features three high-intensity LEDs that shine down and forward for walking at night, plus one that projects upwards to illuminate a car or house locks. Fido Fashion’s “unique, proprietary casing” houses a small generator that allows your dog’s natural curiosity about objects near and far–necessitating the coiling and uncoiling of the leash–to power the bulbs via kinetic energy. The leash also features a streamlined storage area for storing pet waste bags.

Want one? It sounds like you may have to wait, as the company has recently applied for patents on their design is currently seeking a handful of small capital investors” who can help make the pooch-powered leash-light a reality.
