New 23-Inch NEC LCD Is Easy on the Eyes, Earth, and Your Wallet

by David Craddock, April 1st, 2010

Your current monitor may sport sky-high resolutions and all sorts of fancy options, but does its energy usage and mercury content have you seeing more red than green? NEC, manufacturer of many eco-friendly display solutions, has announced the AccuSync AS231WM LCD monitor, a wide-screen beauty whose price, feature set, and environmentally friendly pedigree will have conventional displays turning green with envy.

The 23-inch display comes loaded with the bells and whistles image aficionados expect from viewing experiences: 1920×1080 max display resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio, a sharp contrast, and more. But the AS231WM is more than just a pretty face. “The AS231WM widescreen display consumes 50 percent less energy and contains 50 percent less mercury content than conventional monitors of the same size,” according to an NEC press release.

In addition, a carbon footprint meter allows users to meticulously track their carbon savings, and the monitor also bears an EPEAT Silver rating, marking it as a model piece of Earth-friendly technology. Look for the AS231WM to ship in May 2010 with a suggested price tag of $269.
