One of the more hyped green car companies of late has been Fisker Automotive. Widely seen as a fierce competitor to Tesla Motors, Fisker is known for its upcoming Karma plug-in hybrid. This vehicle, which had been under development for quite awhile, recently saw the unveiling of its first ever factory built model.
To get some insight into Fisker Automotive and its plans for being a leader in the green car space, we conducted a brief email interview with Marti Eulberg, the auto manufacturer’s vice president of global sales and marketing.
EarthTechling (ET): Tell us a little about the background of Fisker Automotive. How did the company come into being?
Marti Eulberg: Fisker Automotive was founded in 2007 by visionary Aston Martin and BMW designer Henrik Fisker, and business partner Bernhard Koehler. When starting the company it was clear that in order to successfully maintain our freedom of mobility in this changing world without sacrificing our way of life, we could develop environmentally conscious vehicles that are as beautiful as they are environmentally responsible stirring the emotions that made us fall in love with cars in the first place.
ET: Tell us about the Karma luxury plug-in hybrid Fisker is developing. What makes it such a unique car?
Eulberg: The Fisker Karma is the world’s first luxury plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. The Karma frees the mind to indulge the heart by combining world class style and performance with industry leading economy and lower emissions than today’s leading hybrids. With an achievable annual average of more than 100mpg, the Karma is the only truly responsible alternative to the vehicles with which it will compete, such as the Porsche Panamera, Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7-Series.
