[Editor's Note: Like green cars? We just launched today a new feature called EarthTechling Earth Videos, where we round up online video clips based upon green tech topics. Our first set is different green cars, some of which are being showcased at the Portland Auto Show. Check out the videos here.]
Portland, Oregon, being the hub of green innovation that it tries to be, has a decidedly eco tint going on at this year’s International Auto Show, happening at the Oregon Convention Center January 27-30. Unlike last year’s show, which had a notably smaller dedicated green car area, the show this time around set aside around 30,000 square feet of floor space to showcase green car technologies. Many of your usual hybrid and electric cars from major manufacturers are on display, as well as greener vehicles and related technologies from Oregon and Washington based companies.
Of particular note this year as well is an electric racing car called White Zombie, which is said to be the fastest accelerating street legal EV of all time, both in the 0-60 and quarter mile categories. It has reportedly beaten a variety of muscle cars off the starting block, as well as roaring past the Tesla Motors Roadster electric luxury car. The vehicle, a converted 1972 Datsun 1200 Coupe, seems definitely not to be soft when it comes to showcasing souped up electric car technology.
Also on display at the show are the Nissan Leaf, Chevy Volt, Tesla Roadster and a host of other green cars. Check out our photo gallery below of show images you can click on and navigate through, and make sure as well to get over to the show before it closes, especially to support those locally based electric vehicle companies which are helping to literally drive green innovation in Oregon.
