Solar, Nitrogen Power SUV Concept

A new concept vehicle out of Pune, India, from designer Konjaril Sunil Karunakaran combines a variety of different technologies to create a hybrid SUV that’s stylish and innovative.

Using solar power, as well as brake and internal engine heat, to warm tubes containing molten salt, the vehicle harnesses an external stirling engine, along with liquid nitrogen to charge the onboard lithium-ion batteries. At lower speeds, the SUV runs off the batteries before the internal combustion engine takes over.

As you can see from the digital mock-up below, the concept vehicle is very stylish, and features huge tires, but has a cabin much shorter than the tall interiors usually associated with SUVs.

The new SUV design is one of the more practical concepts we’ve covered lately. Although features on solar bikinis, hovercrafts and transformable campers are fun, it’s projects based on established models, like the Tesla Motors inspired car, that are easier to imagine becoming reality.
