The SolarWorld Gran Turismo is a two-seat sports car built by SolarWorld in collaboration with Germany's Bochum University of Applied Sciences, set out on a global tour earlier this month to set a Guinness World Record for longest distance covered by a solar car. The US leg of its planned trip is a 3,774-mile, 49-day journey from California to South Carolina, but the car has already traveled through Australia and New Zealand, covering 3,100 miles, and after touring the US will be shipped overseas to travel through Europe, Asia and Africa.
