Electric Makeover In Store For TAC Stark SUV
This year Michael Rutter won the one-lap race on a MotoCzysz, beating John McGuinness, on a Mugen, and teammate Mark Miller home. Rutter exceeded the landmark 100mph average lap, hitting more than 104mph, to collect a £10,000 prize from the Isle of Man Government, which had promised a $16,000+ prize for the first electric bike to average above 100 MPH throughout the race.
Last year, the Segway MotoCzysz ridden by Michael Rutter narrowly missed out on the historical goal with an average lap speed of 99.64 MPH. Team Segway MotoCzysz also came in first in the last U.S. e-race of 2011, winning the final round of the TTXGP, crossing the finish line 30 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.
TAC Motors plans to begin production on the eSpark by next year. The $27 million deal with MotoCzysz is for 3,600 D1g1tal Dr1ve powertrains.
The Stark has a light structure made with fiberglass panels and engineering plastic covering a “cage shaped” reinforced tubular chassis as well as double shock absorbers on each wheel.
The initial production will only be for the Brazilian market since even the gasoline version of the Stark has yet to be sold in North America.
Small-size off-road vehicles have faded in popularity in the U.S. in recent years. However, MotoCzysz expressed the hope that the eStark could in the end enter the North American off-road market.
“The eStark is a very exciting and cool vehicle that I think will be a real success in Brazil and hopefully eventually in North America as well,” Michael Czysz, CEO of MotoCzysz, said in a statement.
