Big cranes are needed to install and, at times, repair land-based turbines. Here at a ground-fog shrouded wind farm in Northern California, the crane company Bigge has deployed a Liebherr LR1300 crawler crane to perform turbine maintenance on 60 meter towers. The 330-ton capacity machine was designed with turbine erection and maintenance in mind. According to the company, the crane is rigged with 243 feet of main boom and 23 feet of wind jib.
