45 Fisker Karmas Charge At Once, Dutch Grid Survives
We know it was a world record when 45 Fisker Karmas came together to be charged simultaneously because before it happened, there was no such record. That is your best bet for setting a world record at pretty much anything: Be the first to do it.
This remarkable event – meaningless, sure, but still remarkable – took place in a field in the Netherlands earlier this month. Sixty level-2 charging stations were set up. Karma owners – of which there are 130 in the Netherlands, where the $106,000 electric vehicle went on sale in January – were invited.
While 45 Karmas plugged in on the grounds of the Floriade Horticultural World Expo in Venlo, five other unnamed non-Karmas also participated, according to Fisker. This resulted in another world record: Highest Number of Mixed-Brand Electric Vehicles to be Charged Simultaneously, 50.
This mark actually bettered a previous record, which was 43, set in May, at the same site, clearly a magical place for mass EV charging. And if you’re at all skeptical of these records, rest assured, both “were confirmed by Stichting E-Laad, the Dutch foundation for the promotion of electric driving,” Fisker said.
